Hey everyone, it's been a long, long time since I blogged anything (excluding the 2 posts earlier tonight of course) but anyways 2 months is a long time and its mainly due to this!!

I teamed up with Laurent Rossi to do the FX on this Street Fighter homage. It was a really amazing project to work on and I had loads of fun. Animating all the fireballs and explosions is an area of FX that I havent had a chance to work with before and it really cool! So I did all the FX animation and Mr Rossi did the character animation, BG, colouring and compositing! Pretty much everything else, this guy is a machine, go check out his blog!

This is a progression reel of the project.

at the end of September I will be bringing my animation time in Luxembourg to and end. I've been living here for almost a year and have had a great time working in TV animation. Im going to be moving back to London to work as an FX animator on the 2nd series of 'The Amazing World of Gumball!'

Im so excited and really cant wait to start working on such an amazing series! Its going to be soo much fun!!

I will try and post up more often (at least once a month?... maybe)

So yesterday me, Gill and some other guys all went drawing to the small zoo in Luxembourg. Well it turned out to be a great day out! The zoo was a lot bigger than i thought it was going to be and is a really nice place to go and sketch the animals.

Hey everyone, so at the moment im inbetween projects here in Luxembourg. Looking forward to starting work as a character animator in July! Will be a scary change from FX work but I plan to keep up personal FX animation in my own time.

At the moment im working on improving my drawing skills, i've been reading Force: Dynamic life drawing for animators, which is a brilliant book, really great! Im also working on some FX stuff for a project with a friend of mine Laurent Rossi. Please check out his blog!

and lastly this is a teaser for the series I just finished working on as an FX animator, I was pretty much the only FX guy on the series and it was a hard journey but I learnt so much and got to animate so many cool things that i've never tried before. Looking forward to seeing it on TV soon.

Hey everyone, I've recently finished work in my FX animator job here in Luxembourg. Its been a wicked experience and i've learnt loads about TV animation and animating FX. I'm currently working on a showreel/portfolio update that I will hopefully be able to get up online at some point in the future. I've set up some new links on my blog to other sites of mine too.

On another note, Everyone must check out the work of Chris Graf. His work has been a massive inspiration for me, heres a recent video of his FX awesomeness!!!

Torch Fire

Short loop animation of a fire on a torch.

I had a play around with some of the filters in toonboom. Its amazing what some glow and blur filters can do! theres a mixture of the two filters using different alpha levels and intensities.

Trying to add more heat to the fire is always a must but I dound it interesting just how different the filters could make the FX look and how many re-use possibilities there could be. I like a couple of the really blurry versions on the top. It could be a useful technique for adding depth to a shot.

So, last night I went to see 'Rio' from Blue Sky studios. The main thing I liked about the film was how colourful it was, all of the different birds and the environments were stunning. The film had a good sense of design and the story, staging was strong. I was laughing for ages at one of the support characters voiced by will.i.am, especially for the line 'birds vs monkeys!' The only downer I had from it was it all seemed to wrap up a little too quickly at the end, but I guess the story was over and there was no need to dwell on what happens next.

I would definately recommend seeing it. Even in !3D! lol

Not sure if you have heard of the blog post that this is from. I guess this looks a little like me, more the expression than the structure.....oh and the one bug eye hehehe

Hey, This is my post for AIB jumble this week. The topic was 3 panel comic and this is about the option of a new job in Luxembourg animating effects on a TV show.

Later on in the production I got the chance to create some story concept images, which was really fun. Was trying out Painter as i haven't had a lot of experience in it. It really is a brilliant piece of software, If you get the chance to have a go on it definately take advantage of it.

Anyways this is a process of a concept i did for the first act in the film.

While i was storyboarding at Glory and Dream Studio, I also manageed to try some cahracter design. I tended to put down some basic designs for some of the characters that were in the boards but at the time were undeveloped. These designs were not used for the final designs of the characters, but i like to think that at least they opened up some ideas for the characters.

managed to get out and do some sketchin. the weather in nanjing is getting hotter now so plans have been made to get out and about and draw more. Work load permiting that is. Whilst being watched by many chinese people, i attempted to draw some of the architecture at a temple that i had visited before. I felt rude roughing in the chinese symbols of the name of the temple, hopefully it makes some sense and i didnt offend any monks

I think because i have been drawing rough storyboards in tiny little rectangles for as long as i can remember, i really want to pick up a brush and attack a canvas! :D but at the moment i haven't got the materials, so I've been practicing on painter instead.

you may think blue for a kiss? maybe a bit cold. But i was trying to portary something i was feeling as i was painting. A sense of perfectness. The moment you become lost in a kiss it feels like it's the only thing happening, creating passion but also a sense of peace wrapped in your lovers arms.

First of all i apologise for the quality, i had to take these off my camera phone and its not as good as a scanner, but alas the scanner was busy so this will have to do. The bus to work is just too damn bumpy, so i cant draw on it, its really annoying because There is some great faces there. What I've been trying to do is try and remember a face. Before the AIB team left Chengdu after our spring festival adventure, Gill decided she wanted to save a very cute, very small, very white rabbit and take it home to live in our apartment in Nanjing. She is still very cute but over the couple of months shes been with us she has put on a little weight hehe still cute though, plus instead of looking like a small white ball she is now rabbit shape.

For spring festival (chinese new year to us westerners) we were lucky enough to visit a panda sanctuary in Chengdu. I managed to do some sketches of the cutest type of bear, they dont do alot basically sit and eat bamboo!

i am actually amazed that i seem to be drawing everyday, here are some studies of apples, trying to get used to using pastels more as i realised that i had 3 full boxes of them.
